I Almost Lost $7,000 on the New On-Court Collection

As part of Valldoreix’s evolution as a true tennis brand, I wanted to design a full on-court collection—not just apparel, but a complete experience. So, I set out to create two pairs of shorts, a performance tee, three hoodies and essential accessories like socks and a hat.

The Vision Behind the First Performance Tee

The tee was special. I envisioned it in a coal color with a marl effect, a minimalist yet statement-making piece that embodied the raw, unfiltered side of tennis. This collection wasn’t just about looking good—it was about capturing the grit and intensity of the sport.

For the fit, I referenced a Nike tee that had the perfect cut for performance, or at least what I thought was the best cut. I spent $100 in the samples. When the samples arrived, I was upset. The supplier had sent a fit identical to our off-court tees, likely because they overlooked my update or found it easier to reuse our existing patterns.

The Unexpected Discovery

Despite the setback, I decided to test the samples. I had requested two different colors and fabrics, so I took the lighter one to the court the very next day.

The goal was just to test the fabric—but the fit blew me away. It felt fresh, incredibly light, and gave me full freedom of movement. I even felt like I was hitting stronger. That’s when it clicked: this oversized tee was something special.

A Nod to Tennis History

As I finalized the order, I realized this relaxed fit was reminiscent of what tennis legends wore in the ‘90s. Every time I scroll through Pinterest, I come across iconic shots of Pete Sampras, Marat Safin, and Andre Agassi—huge inspirations for Valldoreix.

So, I took to Instagram and asked:
Bring 90s Oversized Tennis Fits Back?

The response was insane—over 6,000 likes and 1,500 shares on a post that usually gets around 100 likes. The flood of comments saying “Yes, please” confirmed what I was feeling: this was the right direction.

That’s when I made the call. I placed the bulk order for the entire collection for a total of around $7,000.

The Setback

Then came the problem.

After wearing and washing the tee and shorts for weeks, I noticed the logo was peeling off. I couldn’t believe it. I had already placed orders for the entire Spring/Summer collection—but I couldn’t sell a product with a failing print.

I immediately contacted my supplier, and after troubleshooting, we found a new printing method that made the logo more elastic and durable, preventing peeling.

A good thing is that I placed the order before Chinese New Year, as no one works during those days. If I hadn’t, I would have lost the production money.

 Crisis averted.

The Bigger Picture

From the beginning of this new era, my goal has been to deliver the highest-quality tennis products available. I’ve always felt that most tennis brands focus on practicality but lack meaning and purpose.

Valldoreix is different. I want every piece to tell a story, to feel like the best thing you could possibly wear on and off the court.

Now, I just have to wait—because these tees are coming.

And this is just the beginning.

The mission?
To create the best tennis brand in the world.
